Nearly six weeks later, the flood is still here, but has now receded into a putrid, eutrophic bog of eternal stench. Unpleasant is not the word.
Some willows have even tried to sprout out of their trunks from being underwater for so long. At first I thought it was a weird fungus, but no, it's roots.
Yuck
Most of the trees have grown like crazy, with the willow sprouts in the maze putting on a good 4ft!!
The coppice is doing really well, too - we should get a good harvest this year
A sycamore has died, and many of the willows (like this one above) are suffering from what looks like Nitrogen Burn - a yellowing of the leaves in response to an overload of nutrients, likely washed in from the fields during the rains. They should recover easily though.
