I finally submitted my epic 7,000-word college assignment on the Freshford Local Area Plan (phew!) so am now catching up on some long-overdue blogging. Thanks for reading, folks - please leave a comment!! :)

Inchbeg Fishing School not offering lessons this year (sort of)

Sadly, this summer 2013 the Inchbeg Fishing School will not be offering fishing lessons. We simply can't afford to. Last year, only six groups of people came to visit and it didn't even cover the insurance. 

However!

If you have your own gear, don't need lessons and would just like to go fishing or spend time by the river, you're very welcome to come down. 

Rather than charging anyone or operating in a normal 'business' capacity, we'll ask that you make a donation to the Kilkenny Branch of the Alzheimer's Society at your own discretion. We've always donated all/any profits to this hugely important local service and would like to continue to support them as best we can.

Bird Hide!! (*so cool!*)

Earlier this year, the Inchbeg Fishing School was generously awarded a grant by the Veolia Environment Community Fund to develop the field as a resource for environmental education in the local community. The company's water management division, Veolia Water, is headquartered in Kilkenny.

Wild Swimming...

Late spring was incredible down here and hot days, low water and airborn pussy willow fluff made for magical times by the river.

My friend Riona and I had our first dip of the year, followed by bbq'd salmon (that I must admit I did not catch myself) over the bonfire. These pictures were taken on the last weekend in May, and offer a sharp contrast to the ones I'll shortly be posting in the next blog...

February floods

The floods are up and fields for miles around have turned into lakes. Great news for the salmon!
